Have you ever felt inadequate at work, doubted or felt undeserving of your accomplishments? You may be experiencing imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is the false belief that your success is based on luck/fraud instead of your skills. It is incredibly common, and many of us will experience these feelings at some point in our careers. So if you’re going through it, you are not alone!
Here are 3 ways to help you get out of your own way and achieve the career success you want:
List your accomplishments: Creating a brag sheet can help you overcome feelings of inadequacy. List all your accomplishments, accolades & achievements throughout your career and outside of the workplace. In addition, make it a habit to celebrate your achievements on social media.
Create a support network: Surround yourself with a supportive network in and outside of work. Connect with others in your industry via networking events. Talking with people that may be experiencing the same issues as you will help combat negative self-talk.
Welcome the praise: When someone gives you positive feedback or praises your work accept it and internalise it as fact. Try not to judge yourself against what was said, or overanalyse it. Make a concentrated effort to listen and reflect on words of encouragement.
