What makes a good Test Analyst?

If you are a tester or want to join the testing field here are some of the skills that you will need to possess, to become a great test analyst.

Attention to detail

A great skill that testers should have is having an eye for detail. This quality is useful when you have to identify bugs that aren’t obvious. It also helps to avoid higher fixing costs or defects later on in the project.

Business orientated

It is important to be able to understand software from a business point of view. A great tester can understand how business issues can be turned into technical solutions.

Ability to communicate

A vital skill to have is having good verbal and written communication skills. As a tester, you will have to communicate with technical and non-technical people. It is important to convey the details of a problem to the development team. In addition, you can’t be afraid to ask questions or vocalise your concerns.

Time Management

Managing your time effectively can help to ensure that you are being as effective as possible in your role. You need to know what must be tested and what must be given less priority, what must be automated and what must be tested manually.

Creative mind

If you are testers you must be able to think beyond what is expected of you as a software tester. You must be able to think how users can do things that are not explicitly written out in the software requirements or how they can misuse the software.

Technical background

There is a high demand for testers with a technical background. Testers with programming and scripting experience have an advantage because there is an increase in the popularity of automated and API testing.
